Railroad Ties

My Mom now lives near the railroad, and I found this pile of ties last time I was visiting her.
The similarities, and the sort of repeating pattern caught my eye.
They stank of creosote, though, so I did not stay long.

Bottle and Asters

We have sun today, so I was working in that,
but still with still life.
This series is an old medicine bottle, and a few aster seed heads.
And the sunlight and shadows, of course.
Please let me know what you think...

Still Life

The weather has been gray and wet, so I have been playing indoors.
I figure the only way to learn to create still lifes
is to start taking the photos,
and see what I come up with.
I would appreciate any positive comments you make!!

Icicles at Dawn

The icicles on the front of the house look so different in the early morning light!
I am sharing them with Friday Finds even if this is Monday...

Catch the Light

There is nothing like the sparkle of the first snows of the winter!
The way some of the snowflakes catch the light just so,
and the blue shadows....

Icicles

Whether it is official or not,
winter is here, along with the white stuff and the icicles.
The temperatures are only around freezing,
so I was able to catch some falling drops...

Dawn Ice

The wind ruffled the small patch of open water, while the rising sun cast its golden light over the whole pond.
Getting closer, you can see the texture of the ice.
A different part of the pond, and the light has changed completely.

Burdock

Yes, I know - I hate it too - but you cannot deny that the flowers are pretty!
It's the seed pods that get caught in everything, and are the very devil to take out.

Ice

The weather has been cold enough that the pond is frozen over.
I love seeing the way the ice forms.

Honeybee

Have you ever watched how quickly the bees move through the flowers? This one stayed still long enough I could capture her.

Skeleton Keys

Some of the keys I brought home from my father's collection.
He never walked past a key on the sidewalk...
