Canada Day

I have never tried posting music before, but tomorrow is Canada Day, and I have been doing a number of things differently, so here are three of my favourites.
There is no video of Stan Rogers, as he has been gone 31 years now. I remember listening to so much of his music when I was a very confused, very new mother.
I hope you enjoy these...

Old Photos

Fifty some odd years ago, my sister and I tried to push my Dad out of bed.
It didn't work.

Catalpa

The catalpa trees are blooming,
and photographing them is a good excuse to stand and inhale the fragrance.
I love the ruffly edges of the blossoms!

Lady's Mantle and Books

The lady's mantle is blooming now,
and I wondered what it would look like with some old books.

Snapping Turtle

Annie and I found this snapping turtle laying her eggs beside the river. I don't know if we disturbed her, or if she did not bury her eggs deeply enough, but I found the broken shells, the next day...

More Info About Tree

The city owns the tree, so it is in charge of getting rid of it, and they do supply a replacement, but you have to plant it.
I have an offer to take the firewood, if he gets here before the city's chipper truck does.

Abstract

The nets from around the baseball diamond create a pleasing pattern.

If a Tree Falls in the Thunderstorm...

Yesterday dinnertime, we had a severe thunderstorm. There was barely a second between the lightning and the thunder,
lots of wind and a bit of hail. Sometime in the middle of that, the flowering crabapple tree in the middle of the front yard came from together.
Last month, a couple of big branches came off, and husband put some black paint to protect the tree from losing too much sap or getting infected. The link to those photos is here.
I have called the city, asking them to remove the pieces, and put a new tree in the yard.
My neighbor and her grandkids are going to start taking the branches apart this morning.
Neither of us expect them to get very far, but it will be a novel experience for them, and amusing for us.

Currant Blossoms

My Mom's currant bush was in bloom, and I spent some time each day with it,
especially in the later afternoon, when the sun was shining through the flowers and leaves.

Grandma and Maud

Maud is the only horse my grandparents owned whose name I know even though I never met her.
She used to be a racehorse, but just because she was retired, she saw no reason to let those nasty horseless carriages pass her when Grandma was driving the kids to school.
My Mom remembers some pretty wild rides...

Grass

It's that time of year again -
the grass is in blossom.
I can capture the florets, but not the pollen...

Peonies

This is what peonies look like after an inch of rain...
But I can shake some of the water out,
or admire it on the buds.
Or simply play with the photos...

Fleabane

The morning sun peeking through the clouds caught the fleabane, highlighting the petals.

Truck

I have no idea why my Dad brought home this toy truck.
Maybe the same reason I had to do a photo shoot with it...

Five Things

Weeks ago, Deb challenged me to list five things
about myself that you do not know. I think she wants me to move out from behind the camera,
maybe...

1. The biggest thing just now is the sciatica. It is getting better, but there were so many days when I just wanted to cry with the pain. I have been doing a lot of reading, and not so much moving.

2. Jake has health problems of his own that I am dealing with. He will be 13 this summer, but his hearing is going,
and now he is unable to use one back leg. The vet said there is arthritis, but it also feels like a torn ligament, and the way he is holding his foot, there may be nerve damage.

3. I got my first car when I was about 5. It was a black Studebaker.
My father drove me around the block in it, then parked it near the back fence. My sister and I would spend the spring and fall sitting on the roof, pretending we were hunters, shooting the buffalo (you know, the black and white ones that go to the barn to be milked twice a day), and sending our pretend dog to retrieve our kills.

4. My first kitten was named Timothy, and he was all black.

5. My sisters and I were all baptized the same day, my third birthday. I will try and find the photo celebrating the event.

Abstract

Some of the photos from my Dad's basement that are all about shapes and colours, rather than images.
I am starting to forget what some of them actually were...

Horseshoes and Lampshade with Flowering Crabapple Blossoms

I am going to have to come up with another way of labeling my posts...
I have labeled the contents of this one, but the title is rather boring...
or maybe you think it is intriguing...
But this is what I have been editing today,
from the photos I took while I was in Woodstock.
