Dogtooth

The dogtooths have been blooming
in the woods at the Beaver Pond Trail.
They are also called trout lilies,
maybe because of the markings on the leaves.
The leaves cover a lot of ground,
but there are not that many flowers.
 I wonder why...

Lady's Mantle

I love the way lady's mantle holds the raindrops,
 especially in the morning sun!

Friday's Fences

I found a rusty old fence meandering through the woods.
Eventually, it will rust away to nothing.
I am linking this to Friday's Fences.

Skywatch Friday

This stand of young trees is beside the pond we walk along.
They are just coming out in leaf.

Dutchman's Britches

The Dutchman's britches were in full flower this week.
There were so many of them!
A bee demonstrated how to get the nectar.
Some of the blossoms were done for the year.

Early Saxifrage

I noticed a new (to me) plant
 while walking last week.
Early saxifrage is only a couple of inches tall, and seems to prefer rocky places.

Watery Wednesday

I woke to snow blanketing the ground yesterday.
And the lilacs and other trees.
The temperature was hovering around freezing all day,
but the snow turned to slush and then to rain.
Other than the interesting photo ops,
a day to stay indoors and read.

Cherry Blossoms With Snow

Here, I thought it was spring,
and I woke up to find the ground covered with white stuff, again...

Today's Flowers

The red trilliums are blooming now.
Not as well known as the white trilliums,
but found in many of the same areas.

Maple Leaf

While crawling around in the woods, I noticed the afternoon sun streaming through this leaf, shed last fall.

Bloodroots Again

There are still a lot of bloodroots blooming,
but more and more of them
 look like this.

Tree Flowers

Remember the leaves that looked like dancing hands?
 Here are the flowers,
and the leaves, as they appear this week.
