Bird Nests

One morning, there were two bird's nests on the ground. Neither of them appeared to have been used,
but the construction, both inside and out, was fascinating.

Today's Flowers

I have only found one lot of sweet peas this year,
 but they are blooming happily.

Sunflowers

I have found a large patch of sunflowers
under a bird feeder near a walking trail.
I love the back of the blossom almost as much as the front.

Bur Cucumber

I am fascinated by the delicacy
 of the bur cucumber flowers.
The vines climb up anything they come in contact with,
 from trees to grass.
The weight of the vines pulls the grass over, though.

Joe Pye Weed

Joe Pye weed is one of the few wild plants I can think of that comes in more than one colour -
my plant book says only the pink, but there is a lot of white around here, too.

Macro Flowers Saturday

I don't know what sort of plant this is, but it is a good six feet tall.

Fish Bones

A month or so ago, a large fish was caught in the rocks between the pond and the marsh, and died.
I avoided the area for weeks, till I could be sure there was nothing for the dogs to roll in.
There is nothing left but the bones, now, and I have been photographing them. And thinking about a story I used to read my daughters - "A Harp Made of Fish Bones".

Milkweed

The milkweeds are starting to set their seed pods.
There are some full sized, and some that are still quite small.

Skywatch Friday

The cattails are reaching their full height now, and are impressive against the morning sky.

Burdock

Burdock is another pesky weed which is altogether too common around here.
After the blossoms have finished, I am going to have to take the clippers out and cut down all the bushes in the areas where we usually walk, in self preservation.
Otherwise, Annie will bring home all the burrs, a few dozen at a time, the whole winter.

Purple Loosestrife

Purple loosestrife is such a gorgeous colour
I can almost forgive it for being such an invasive weed.

Watery Wednesday

Joe Pye weed often grows near the water, making for some interesting backgrounds.
This is my favourite of the week's captures.

Grass Against the Sky

Somehow the grass just looks so different against the sky.

Sunrise

I spent half an hour watching
 the colours of the sunrise
 and the clouds.
